My name is Barbara Essien. I attended University of Lousiana at Monroe in Monroe, Louisiana, where I obtained a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education. I then attended Concordia University of Portland, Oregon where I received a Masters of Education in Curriculum & Instruction and a Minor in Early Childhood Education in 2015.
Before coming to Woodlawn, Mrs. Essien worked at Georgia Tucker Elementary School. I came to Woodlawn Elementary in 1997 in which my teaching assignment began in the fourth grade. I have also taught second grade in which I have truly enjoyed at one time. I am now presently teaching kindergarten which is a true blessing to be today. I am currently teaching all the subjects such as math, reading, phonics, social studies, and science.
Mrs. Essien has one daughter named Daija. She was once a Woodlawn Elementary student during her younger days. She also was one of the few students who was able to attend the first Pre-Kindergarten class at Woodlawn in 2004. Daija now attends the University of Lousisana at Monroe and is a member of the ULM Hawkline Dance Team in which she has the oppourtunity to perform at the football, basketball and other various events held throughtout the year.
